Division of Undergraduate Education

Academic Achievement Division
The Academic Achievement Programs (AAP) is a student services department, which promotes academic excellence among UC Berkeley undergraduates. AAP works in partnership with students, faculty, and professional staff to provide scholarly activities and comprehensive academic support services. AAP students represent a diverse group of scholars and leaders. Our office serves student from low-income backgrounds, students whose parents did not graduate from college, and/or students from underrepresented groups.

Athletic Study Center
The ASC offers a broad range of academic support services to over 900 students from 27 sports. Our programs are designed to assist students in adjusting to life at Cal, establishing good study habits, and developing sound academic and career plans.

Disabled Students Program
The Disabled Students' Program (DSP) is committed to ensuring that all students with disabilities have equal access to educational opportunities at UC Berkeley. We offer a wide range of services for students with disabilities. These services are individually designed, and based on the specific needs of each student as identified by our Disability Specialists.

Educational Development Office
The Office of Educational Development (OED) supports, enhances, and publicizes the teaching efforts of faculty at Berkeley. Its services include individual consultation with faculty on all aspects of their teaching, classroom observation and videotaping, and awards and grants. OED works closely with and provides support for the Committee on Teaching of the Berkeley Division of the Academic Senate.

Multicultural Student Development

Professional Development Program
Established in 1974 by faculty of the University of California at Berkeley, the Professional Development Program (PDP) promotes academic excellence and diversity for students and faculty from middle school through graduate school.

Student Learning Center
The SLC is a community of 4000 under-graduates, over 250 tutors and instructors, and 20 professional staff. Our philosophy: students working with students promotes academic excellence and personal success.
The primary academic support service for students at Berkeley, the SLC helps students transition to Cal; navigate the academic terrain; create networks of resources; and achieve academic, personal and professional goals.

Student Life Advising Services
SLAS is an academic counseling/advising service that assists all undergraduate students, with a primary focus on EOP students and students who participated in outreach programs. We assist students in developing the skills required to succeed at Berkeley and beyond by taking a comprehensive approach to counseling/advising on academic, personal and social matters.

Transfer, Reentry, and Student Parent Center
The Transfer, Re-entry, and Student Parent Center serves a diverse population of students and is dedicated to providing programs and services in support of the academic and personal success of transfer, re-entry, and student parents. As a supportive and inclusive community, the center is committed to increasing students access to and awareness of campus resources and enrichment opportunities. The center also promotes campus and community engagement and leadership development that enrich and support students' academic and professional goals. The Transfer, Re-entry, and Student Parent Center carries out the University commitment to access and equity for students and plays a key role in campus outreach and recruitment of transfer, re-entry, and student parents through participation in programs and events at Bay Area community colleges.

Educational Technology Services
Educational Technology Services is the central campus resource providing course web sites, classroom technology support and installation, webcasting, multimedia production, teleconferencing, video and audio, and technology support for University events. ETS also provides consulting and training on how to use these and other tools for effective teaching, learning and communication. ETS actively participates in international learning technology standards setting organizations to foster the development of interoperable software and reusable content. ETS is also the home of KALX Radio, the UC Berkeley community radio station.

American Cultures Center
The American Cultures requirement is a Berkeley campus requirement, the one course that all undergraduate students at Cal need to take and pass in order to graduate. The requirement was instituted in 1991 to introduce students to the diverse cultures of the United States through a comparative framework. Courses are offered in more than forty departments in many different disciplines at both the lower and upper division level.
